(Judges 2:11-13) 11 Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals. 12 They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They aroused the Lord’s anger 13 because they forsook him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.
The Israelites have compromised their uniqueness for what they see as an advantage of acceptance. Be careful how much of “you” you compromise to fit in.
Is anything more important to you than God? Is there anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God, anything you seek to give you what only God can give? A counterfeit god, an idol, is anything so central and essential to your life that, should you lose it, your life would feel hardly worth living. An idol has such a controlling position in your heart that you can spend most of your passion and energy on something that won’t give back on the measure in which you gave. Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out? Don’t ever water down your uniqueness or God for any relationship, any person, any organization, any situation.
My Final thought and question today is this, “Is your God your God, or have you adopted the god of the people you’re around and committed yourself to a cause that really isn’t your own just so that you can fit in?”
